Default 2nd Character is a Ranger.

I have a new ranger character now and I am wondering the potential with it. I played around with the other professions as a secondary and decided to to Mesmer. I liked a lot using Image Burden w/ the pet (a Melandru's Stalker) and sniping him with a bow. Great combo so far. Sometimes I'll ignite arrows first then do all that. This is my 2nd time with a Prophecies character, my first being a tank of a Warrior/Elementalist and that at first I didn't like because of the pre-searing spells and regretted. Now I am in post searing it's starting to pay off.

Anyhow what I would like to know is the Ranger/Mesmer combo...what kind of things can I do with it? Any tips, tricks or cool things? I want to concentrate on archery and the pet. If I can I'd like to have more then one.

I originally wanted to do Ranger when I heard there is a quest to go to Cantha since I also own Factions and adventure there. I was going to go assassin...but then I hear that particular quest is only available if you are in Post Searing....and you have to have a 2nd class already for Post Searing...which you can't get rid of to take a different profession or add a third profession.

1) You can only have 1 pet at a time.
2) You can change your secondary profession after you ascend (Desert in Prophecies/Nahpui Quarter in Factions)
3) R/Me doesn't seem to have any big advantages that I know of, Post-searing, but neither does it have many disadvantages.

R/Rit Splinter Barrager is the most dull build imaginable... It does own pretty hard though.

R/Me is what I'm running right now to most places. You can Pindown/Epidemic to slow down a group of melee fighters and Broad Head Arrow/Epidemic to daze a bunch of casters. Use Apply Poison to cover...

Yeah, not much to do with a /Me secondary.

IF you run Broad Head Arrow, you can slide in [skill]Power Drain[/skill] to help with a little energy management, but really D Shot is better there, or even [skill]Drain Enchantment[/skill] for energy and to remove a enchantment from a foe.

Some of the mantras work well in places expecially in combonation with the matching Insignias on your armor, but that kinda stuff is really "area specific" and not too good as general purpose.

Epidemic is weak IMO, typically groups aren't packed with casters or in the area of effect. With posion and bleeding, maybe good.

At the expense at sounding dumb....you can change your 2nd profession? I was thinking if I could I might do Warrior so that in close combat I can wipe out a sword and take care of things. Okay...so assuming I can change my 2nd class...what makes for a good Ranger combo? I like the pet thing and sniping with the bow. Favorite thing like I said is to pull them in with the bow, send out the pet and slow them down as shoot them. With that in mind...what makes for a good beast master combo?

I would say if your going to use a pet go full beast mastery otherwise there sre some mesmer signets you can use. This for interrupting but Rangers have just has good interrupts anyway.

If you want to use a Pet, there's not much you can do with a secondary profession as your points will already be spread between Marksmanship, Expertise, and Beastmastery.

If you want to slow your target down, use the Ranger skill Pin Down, or even better, the elite skill Crippling Shot. Charm Animal and Comfort Animal are required, then add Call of Protection and a pet attack skill. You'll need your Resurrection Signet too, so then fill in the last two spots with Bow Attack skills - one of them should be Savage Shot.

1. Any character you create can travel to Cantha from Prophecies, and the other way around.
2. You can only create Assassins that start in Cantha.
3. You can change your secondary profession as much as you want once you reach that part of the game.

Absolutely not. you should never spec into 2 weapon lines. If you really want to use a sword I think there is an [[expert's dexterity] build. And I suppose [[escape] would suffice.

[broad head arrow] + [epidemic] + [volley] = Own PvE

BHA is awesome with a pet as well. With [distracting shot] and maybe [savage shot] you can technically keep 2 enemies under high interrupt pressure (other is attacking pet + daze). This can be useful instead of Epidemic.

If you wanted to be treated like a pus-filled blister by everyone then sure go /N and toucher.
